Otava 913a
The painting’s title is derived from the name of the student dormitory and the room number where the artist stayed from 1995-98. It was created based on a study of the exact spatial coordinates of the apartment unit and its furnishings. The central linear perspective gives a timeless monumentality to the utilitarian, emptied interior, evoking a Renaissance aesthetic. The sections‘ dark grey surfaces enhance the visibility of the picture plane and the boundary between reality and illusion.
